Welcome to our web site.

Terry's Bayside Getaway is located just steps from the Atlantic Ocean in the picturesque community of Harbour Main on Conception Bay, Newfoundland. This former family home has been lovingly restored by family members who were raised in the house. The result has been called "charming", and "a jewel", by recent guests. It is an ideal home base for vacationers seeking to explore nearby historical and cultural sites and partake of Newfoundland's natural beauty.

Harbour Main is part of the town of Harbour Main-Chapel's Cove-Lakeview, situated between Holyrood and Avondale on the Avalon Pensinsula, just 45 minutes from St. John's, Newfoundland's capital city.

The house was built by our grandfather, Michael F. Terry, in 1927. He attached it to his "shop", a general store that he purchased in 1911. The picture below shows the building.

We've renovated the house, but the "shop" area is a work-in-progress, and for now is not included in the rental. Our renos have introduced some modern conveniences, but we've retained much of the fine original woodwork and some of the now-retro look introduced by our parents in the 1960's.

On the ground floor there is a dining room with 1930s furniture and a living room with satellite HDTV, a computer and wireless Internet. The large eat-in kitchen is fully equipped and extends to an area containing a sink, dishwasher and laundry pair. There is a half-bath off this area. On the second floor, there are three comfortable bedrooms with a double bed in each, a bright, spacious shower/powder room and a half-bath.

Outside, we have a private wraparound deck with BBQ and dining area, facing a large backyard with mature trees and lots of shrubs and flowers. At the back of the property, there is a second shaded deck overlooking the harbour. The deck has ample seating and a fire pit and is partially covered by a glass-roofed pergola.
